Hi! I'm Kelly. I find meaning in helping people feel seen, heard, and valued. Clients have described me as warm, open minded, genuine, compassionate, funny and quirky.
My main approach is the use of mindfulness practices. If there's a problem, let's try to observe what's going on there, without judgement. We can explore ways to solve it, feel better about it, tolerate it, and ideally not make it worse. I also keep in mind how your past is in the present, and we can explore how that shows up in current mental health symptoms. In a technical sense, I utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, interpersonal process therapy, harm reduction approaches, solution focused and trauma therapies (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing or Accelerated Resolution Therapy).
A bit of my background: In my early career, I was able to work for a few years as an alcohol and drug counselor at a local residential treatment center as a men's counselor and then women's counselor. I then moved to the cities, where I worked with clients experiencing homelessness. In graduate school, I interned at a community health care center, as well as an outpatient mental health clinic that specialized in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. After that, I worked for a few years at a local hospital in an outpatient clinic.
Outside the office I love to spend time with my family and friends. I love going outside on hikes, and being near the beautiful Lake Superior. I enjoy crafting miniatures, drawing, diamond painting, and reading.
If you are looking for someone to listen, validate you, and encourage positive change, then I could be a good fit! I offer a free 15 minute consultation.
